Argot is a first-generation family-owned Winery, founded by Winemaker Justin Harmon. Following three contiguous harvest internships, Argot was born in 2007 on the back of a single ton of Syrah. Adding Chardonnay in 2008, followed by Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, Justin scaled production modestly and strategically until the 2011 Harvest. That year, he met his now-wife and business partner, Beth Thompson, and together they were off to the races.

Over the last decade, Argot has enjoyed much praise from the wine press, with over one hundred 90+ ratings, and recently being awarded the prestigious “Winery of the Year” by Purely Domestic Wine Report. Justin and Beth Harmon attribute Argot’s success to their determination to source grapes from the greatest vineyards in Sonoma and Napa, craft world-class wines and an ability to create lasting and meaningful connections with each person they share Argot with.

JUSTIN HARMON

A Chicago native born into a decidedly non-wine family, Justin’s journey to a life in wine was non-traditional, at best.
After attending university in Philadelphia, and a short career as a Chemical Engineer, Justin found himself returning to Chicago in his mid-20s to work as a Software Engineer. It was during this period that his love for wine truly blossomed.
What began with purchasing the occasional bottle to be shared over dinner, in time turned to the closets of his apartment overflowing with wine. His favorite pastime quickly became browsing the aisles of local wineshops and attending as many tastings as he could.
This increased exposure to the world of wine led to a curiosity towards the process of winemaking itself. Following a series of attempts of at-home winemaking, Justin traveled to Sonoma County in 2005 to participate in his first harvest.
Following harvest internships in 2006 and 2007, the opportunity to purchase grapes and ferment them in a professional winery presented itself. That ferment became Argot’s inaugural bottling, 2007’s Preamble Syrah.
Nearly two decades later, Justin’s commitment to his craft remains unwavering.
